Granite City Forward Smith Makes College Commitment
The Granite City Lumberjacks of the North American 3 Hockey League are proud to announce that forward Ty Smith has committed to play NCAA Division III college hockey for Hamline University (Saint Paul, Minnesota).
Smith has spent two seasons in the NA3HL with the Lumberjacks. He’s been a standout player throughout his career in the league. The 2025-2026 season was his most successful season. He had 85 points during the regular season, plus an additional 13 points throughout the playoffs and championship.
Smith had a successful season with the Lumberjacks. He led his team in goals, points and game winning goals. He had 46 goals and 52 assists throughout the entire season and post season.
Smith was ranked 8th in the league among all forwards in goals, and he was ranked 10th in the league in points.
Smith spent brief time in the NAHL this season as well. He played for the Minnesota Mallards for two games, and the St. Cloud Norsemen for one game.
In February of 2026, Smith was selected to compete in the Top Prospects Tournament. The tournament consisted of the best uncommitted players in NA3HL and the NAHL. Smith represented the NA3HL on team Black. He recorded three goals during two games of the tournament.
His best performance this season was on Feb. 21 against the Minnesota Wilderness. He had five total points, consisting of one goal and four assists to aid the Lumberjacks in a 8-3 victory.
Smith was a part of the 2026 Fraser Cup Championship winning team. He was also named the NA3HL Forward of the Year, NA3HL Most Valuable Player and he was named to the NA3HL First All-Star Team.
Smith is one of seven players from the Granite City Lumberjacks to make a college commitment this season.
