New Mexico Forward Butler Makes College Commitment

June 1, 2026

The New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are proud to announce that forward Calahan Butler has committed to play ACHA Division I college hockey for Arizona State University (Tempe, Arizona).

This past season the Tempe, Arizona native showed tremendous growth on the offensive side of the puck from the season prior. This season, Butler recorded 48 points in 46 games including 25 goals and 23 assists.

Butler’s 48 points left him ranked in the top-75 in points across the entire league, and his 25 goals left him ranked in the top-50 across all players in the league. These totals almost doubled his totals from the previous season.

“Proud to see the ladder of development working for deserving players like Cal to advance to opportunities in college,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach Isaac Washburn. “ASU is getting a great player who will contribute in all situations while also being a tremendous human and a great leader and ambassador for their program.”

The best performances of the 2025-26 season from Butler came on Jan. 17 against the West Texas Wranglers. In that game,  Butler scored four goals in the Ice Wolves’ 8-4 victory. This was one of two four point games for Butler this season.

Butler is one of five players from the New Mexico Ice Wolves to make a college commitment this season.
