Monday Recap: Long Beach Sharks Outlast Jr. Mountain Kings in OT

On Monday afternoon, the Long Beach Sharks slammed the New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings in an epic overtime fashion. From the first, the Jr. Mountain Kings would open the scoring from a backhand move by Sedrick Swygert Jr. Then a minute later, the Sharks responded and tied it up, as Brady Gatchell snapped one in. Late into the second, Eli McCarthy, with the help from Jack Baker, would grab the go-ahead lead for the Sharks and carry that lead into the third. Near the 13-minute mark in the final frame, Baker fired one glove side to extend the lead, and shortly after, the club would keep climbing the scoring streak. Ryder Pisiak kept the train moving for the Sharks. But later on, they would lose control of the game when it mattered, as the Jr. Mountain Kings picked up three unanswered before the horn blew. Jacob Landry was first to respond with three minutes left, with Talon Schackman joining the fun 20 seconds later. And then miraculously, Kyle Bouvier popped in Logan Pruim’s rebound to beat the buzzer by six seconds and tie the score at four. With a last minute ‘hail-mary’ attempt by the Jr. Mountain Kings, we would be given some bonus hockey in the form of sudden-death overtime. Two minutes into the frame, the man who grabbed the go-ahead lead for the Sharks before would do so again when it mattered, as McCarthy lasered in the game-winning goal for his team. These two teams will bounce back tomorrow on Tuesday afternoon for a rematch.
