Offensive Outbursts and Playoff Punches Highlight Saturday

Bayou State 1 @ Louisiana 14 - The Louisiana Drillers kept their foot on the gas in Game 2 of the three-game set, overpowering the Bayou State Rougarou as the night wore on en route to a 14-1 win. Louisiana struck for three goals in the first, added three more in the second, then exploded for eight in a statement third period to pull away for good. Carter Gnau led the charge with a hat trick and three assists, while Logan Weber dished out six helpers and added a goal of his own. Ethan Tierman netted the lone tally for Bayou State, who grabbed an early 1-0 lead before the Drillers took control.

Buzz 1 @ Norwich 6 - Building off yesterday’s momentum, the Norwich Sea Captains picked up their second straight win over the Buzz with a convincing 6-1 victory at Rosegarden Ice Arena. Trenton Impens drove the offense from start to finish, recording his first hat trick of the season after scoring once in the previous matchup and adding an assist for good measure. Norwich set the tone early with three goals in the opening frame and continued to build as the night went on. Keegan Elliot netted the lone goal for the Buzz early in the second period, but the Sea Captains controlled the rest of the contest to secure back-to-back wins.

West Bend 9 @ Peoria 0 - After grinding out a tight 3-2 win on Friday, the West Bend Power turned the volume all the way up in Game 2, blanking the Peoria Mustangs 9-0 at Owens Center. West Bend wasted no time seizing control, erupting for seven goals in the opening period and never looking back. Jace Fitzgerald paced the surge with a hat trick, while Shaun Paulson added a pair of goals to fuel the rout. Ben Glaesman was steady between the pipes for the Power, stopping all 20 shots he faced to cap off a dominant weekend response.

Minnesota M 3 @ Willmar 0 - The Minnesota Moose controlled the game from start to finish, shutting out the Willmar Warhawks 3–0 behind a dominant offensive push and steady goaltending performance. After a scoreless first period, Minnesota began to tilt the ice in the second. Will Burnevik broke through in the second, to give the Moose a 1–0 lead heading into the intermission. Minnesota pulled away early in the third. Burnevik struck again less than six minutes into the frame, extending the lead to two. Just 27 seconds later, Brady Johnson added another, capitalizing on sustained pressure to make it 3–0 and effectively put the game out of reach. The Moose overwhelmed Willmar in the shot department, finishing with a commanding 49–27 advantage, including a 23-shot third period that sealed the result. While the Warhawks’ netminder turned aside 46 shots in a standout effort, Minnesota’s depth and pace proved too much to overcome. A complete performance at both ends of the ice lifted the Moose to a convincing road victory.

Alexandria 4 @ Mason City 2 - The Alexandria Blizzard erupted for three first-period goals and never looked back, defeating the Mason City Toros 4–2 on the road. Alexandria wasted little time setting the tone. Wyatt Mineheine opened the scoring late in the first before Easton Schmit doubled the lead on the power play midway through the frame. Just minutes later, Caleb Waller buried another man-advantage opportunity to send the Blizzard into the first intermission firmly in control with a 3–0 cushion.Mason City responded in the second period, capitalizing on a power play of its own as Grant Harder cut into the deficit. The Toros continued to press, but Alexandria’s structure held firm through the remainder of the frame despite a steady push. Early in the third, Blake Breiland restored the three-goal advantage with a power-play marker, halting Mason City’s momentum before it could fully materialize. T.J. Gibson pulled the Toros within two with just 30 seconds remaining, but the late tally proved too little, too late. Alexandria finished with a 35–26 edge in shots and converted three times on the power play, a decisive factor in the win. Special teams execution and a dominant opening period ultimately carried the Blizzard to a critical road victory. Despite the loss, the Toros are officially Fraser Cup Playoff bound, punching their ticket thanks to a little help around the division.

Texas B 1 @ Austin 7 - The Austin Ice Bats didn’t let the shootout win the night before be the highlight of their weekend, they made sure of that Saturday. After battling to a dramatic shootout victory on Friday, Austin came out flying and handled the Texas Brahmas in convincing fashion, skating away with a 7-1 win. The Ice Bats set the tone early, played fast, and never eased up, turning a tight series into a statement finish. It was a complete team effort, with contributions up and down the lineup and relentless pressure that kept the Brahmas on their heels all night. What started as a gritty Friday win turned into a dominant Saturday response, as Austin showed it can win tight games, and then turn around and pour it on. A massive weekend for the Ice Bats, who take two of three from their in-state rival and build serious momentum with the postseason right around the corner. .

Wisconsin 2 @ St.Louis 6 - The St. Louis Jr. Blues delivered an offensive showcase on home ice, defeating the Wisconsin Woodsmen 6–2 in a high-tempo Central Division matchup. St. Louis set the tone early, finding the back of the net three times in the opening period. Chase Kozma opened the scoring midway through the frame, and after Ozbej Muzan briefly answered for Wisconsin, the Jr. Blues responded emphatically. Stephen Craig restored the lead before Kyle Settles extended it to 3–1, capping a dominant first period in which St. Louis controlled pace and generated consistent pressure. The Jr. Blues widened the gap in the second. Brodie Mich pulled Wisconsin within one at 3–2, but that momentum was short-lived. Eric Denny buried back-to-back goals just over five minutes apart, including a late-period strike with 32 seconds remaining, to push the lead to 5–2 heading into the third. Nicholas Morgan added an early insurance marker in the final frame, scoring just over two minutes in to effectively seal the contest. St. Louis finished with a commanding 43–35 edge in shots, including a 19-shot first period that set the offensive tone. Balanced scoring and sustained pressure across all three periods powered the Jr. Blues to a convincing four-goal victory. 

Granite City 5 @ Minnesota W 1 - At the Hippodrome, the Granite City Lumberjacks came out flying and never looked back, skating past the Minnesota Wilderness 5-1. Granite City set the tone immediately, striking three times in the opening period behind goals from Cameron McCormack, Teagan Dodge, and Alexander Zelazowski to put Minnesota on its heels early. The Wilderness found a spark late in the second off the stick of Stratton Maas, but any momentum was short-lived. Eli Tiernan and Drew Thompson added insurance as the Lumberjacks continued to press, while Zach Price was sharp in net, stopping 29 of 30 shots to slam the door. Physical play ramped up as the game wore on,  including a second-period scrap, but Granite City controlled the pace from start to finish in another statement win.

Rochester 2 @ Wausau 5 - After falling 4-1 the night before, the Wausau Cyclones came back with purpose, and a whole lot more bite. Wausau flipped the script at Marathon Park, skating past the Rochester Grizzlies 5-2 in a strong response win. Sean Hall got things started in the first, Brady Robbins followed with a power-play strike, and the Cyclones never really let Rochester settle in. By the time Truman Zerse pushed the lead to 3-0 in the second, you could feel the momentum fully shift. Rochester tried to claw back, but every push had an answer. Elijah Von Gunten buried another power-play goal in the third, and Brady Knutsen iced it late to seal the bounce-back victory. Brody Kunst was outstanding between the pipes, turning aside 43 of 45 shots, while Wausau’s power play caught fire, a sharp contrast from the previous night. After Friday’s setback, this was exactly the kind of response the Cyclones needed.

West Texas 2 @ New Mexico 3 - The New Mexico Ice Wolves pulled off a nail-biter against the West Texas Wranglers, edging them 3-2 at the Outpost Ice Arena. The Ice Wolves jumped on the board early, with Jacob Wenner and Calahan Butler creating a quick two-goal lead in the first period. West Texas fought back, with Dustin Woodfin and Tyson Jones tying the game and keeping the crowd on edge. Grant Sexton’s timely goal in the second reclaimed the lead, and Nathan McFall’s solid netminding held off the Wranglers’ late push. With the win, New Mexico extends its strong run against West Texas and sets the stage for another exciting matchup down the line.

Sheridan 4 @ Yellowstone 3 - The Sheridan Hawks handled business away from home, completing the weekend sweep with another win over the Yellowstone Quake. In the opening period both teams would go scoreless, 0-0 tie heading into the second period. In the second period, the Hawks would get on the board first with a goal from Deagan Watson, Vincent Leaf picking up the assist. Just 26 seconds later, Jameson Clark would score for the Hawks, Deagan Watson and Easton Langemo with the assist. Just a few minutes later the Hawks would extend their lead to 3, Vincent Leaf scoring, Max Krueger with an assist and Deagan Watson getting his second assist. The Quake would then finally answer with a goal from Dean Schlarman, Shayne Smith and Carson Joersz with the assist. The Hawks would answer back though, Easton Langemo scoring, Zachary Marsell and Timothy Vaculik picking up the assist. In the final period, the Quake would try to make it a game, Carson Joersz scoring, Dean Schlarman and Shayne Smith with another assist. Just less than a minute left, the Quake would make it a one point game with a second Carson Joersz goal, Nicholas Carver with the assist. But the Hawks would hold on to defeat the Quake 4-3.

Helena 2 @ Badlands 1 -  Helena completed the road sweep, taking down Badlands during their second game of the weekend. In the opening period the Bighorns would strike first to take the early lead. Caden Feinstein with a goal, being assisted by Ty Schell. In the second period both teams were quiet until the final 30 seconds where the Sabres would get on the board, Rhylan Olson scoring an unassisted goal to tie the game up right before the final period. In the final period, Caden Feinstein would score his second goal, which would be the game winner for the Bighorns, Clint Isakson with the assist. Helena’s goaltender Branson Appelman was strong once again between the pipes, making 28/29 saves as the Bighorns snuck by the Sabres 2-1 on the road.

Gillette 2 @ Great Falls 5 - The Gillette Wild went on the road to take on the Great Falls Americans. In the opening period the Americans would strike first with a goal from Cooper Clouse, Carson Sears and Fisher Hannesson with the assist. In the second period the Americans would grow their lead, AJ Prioli scoring, being assisted by Ethan Miller and Cooper Clouse. The Americans would then extend their lead to 3, Ethan Miller scoring a goal with AJ Prioli returning his assist, Cooper Clouse getting his second assist of the night. The Wild would finally find an answer before the start of the third period, Brady McGinn scoring with an assist from Beau Delich. In the final period the Americans would keep their momentum going with an unassisted goal from Keegan Hanson. The Wild would then answer back with a goal from Donovan Balek, Greyson Ecker picking up the assist. The Americans wouldn’t let the Wild build any momentum as they respond back with another goal, Tallon Caron scoring on the unassisted goal to push the lead back to 3. The Americans would handle business at home over the Wild 5-2.
